"If I did not believe that Euro 2012 Championship will be a success, I would have resigned and requested that another person should be designated to handle that task", Mirosław Drzewiecki, Minister of Sport and Tourism, said on Tuesday during a discussion panel organized at Rzeczpospolita's editor's office in Warsaw devoted to the preparations for the tournament.
Marcin Herra, President of PL.2012, reminded the attendees that there are 1,096 days left to the opening match. He also revealed that an integrated security plan for Euro 2012 Championship will be presented on or before 30 May. Minister Drzewiecki stressed that the Euro 2012 preparations are made according the plan, according to the evaluation of the status of the works by the UEFA's Executive Committee that on 13 May took its final decision to nominate four Polish cities to be the host cities for Euro 2012 tournament matches. "The project is underway, PL.2012 has been working on it. Its work is highly rated. The most important tasks are still ahead of us and I am certain that we will manage. UEFA ordered a design and evaluates its performance. I would like to appeal for a kinder attitude to what we have been doing", Minister Drzewiecki said. The head of the Ministry stated that Euro 2012 is a business project awarded to Poland and Ukraine by UEFA. After 30 November UEFA will decide about the number of stadiums on which games will be played following a final decision concerning the facilities in Ukraine. "I keep my fingers crossed for our Ukrainian partners and we have been in touch with them on a regular basis. At present no one is competent to determine the number of stadiums on which the tournament is going to take place. According to preliminary arrangements, the games will be played on six or eight stadiums. Four of them were determined and are located in Warsaw, Gdańsk and Poznań", the Minister of Sport added. Elżbieta Jakubiak, Chairman of the Seym Sport Committee and former Minister of Sport, emphasized that such an important project as Euro 2012 must be completed in an open way, publicly. Jakubiak enquired about the scope of the works in the process of constructing the National Stadium in Warsaw to be completed until the fall of 2011, i.e. on its completion date. Will the sport section be open and what about the commercial one that will generate incomes required to maintain the whole facility? "Preparations are continued without interruptions, we have been working on numerous issues according to a master plan available at the company's Website. We have been negotiating with potential operators of the National Stadium who will manage the whole facility in the future, including, commercial, office and parking space. One should remember that Euro 2012 tournament is just the beginning of the road and today events should be planned that will be organized after the UEFA Championship", Marcin Herra, Director of PL.2012, explained.
