The Electronic Communication Office (UKE) has activated an Internet portal through which all world media can apply for "radio decisions", which is the consent to use radio equipment using specific frequencies during UEFA EURO 2012™

uke_1 Applications can be filed from today until 15 March 2012. To this end, media, TV broadcasters, journalist, organisers will have to visit the dedicated portal - www.euro2012.uke.gov.pl

The portal presented today at UKE is a breakthrough solution compared to those applied earlier by countries hosting great sports events. At the previous tournament – in Austria and Switzerland – the process was based on paper documents and over 4800 channels used by almost 7 000 devices were assigned to the 173 accredited media.

The portal will simplify and automate the application process and accelerate issuance of consents to use radio devices during UEFA EURO 2012™ and other related events. It facilitates the selection of free frequencies and the completion of on-line applications. The portal – which is worth stressing – will be available from mobile Android applications and from iPhones/iPads.

The process is fully automated. After the filling in of the company details, broadcasters can select from a list of almost all devices certified for use in the European Union – thus ensuring the automatic selection of their parameters required to be provide in the application – such as power, scope of used frequencies or range. Also the fee to be paid for the licence is calculated automatically. The application may be filed and payment made electronically – only an electronic signature is required. The details are sent to the Electronic Communication Office where – also automatically – they will be downloaded to the system and processed. To facilitate the task, the applications are provided with 2D codes.

In order to simplify communication with the broadcasters, the service provides for specifying a contact mobile phone number. When such a number is provided, all text messages on the status of the applications will be sent directly over an integrated SMS gate.

uke_2In view of the high demand for radio bands and limited available frequencies, UEFA partners interested in using radio devices during UEFA EURO 2012™ are requested to file applications for consent to use radio devices by 15 March 2012. Each broadcaster who has filed an application will be able to follow the availability of a specific band and frequency and select from an available pool.

Applications can be filed from 9 January. The first booked frequencies will be assigned after the first month of collecting applications – on 8 February 2012.

The portal created by the Electronic Communication Office is not only a tool for media registration. The service also contains procedures and information concerning assignment of frequencies for short-term use of radio equipment in Poland – it is convenient tool for broadcasters who will work in Poland during UEFA EURO 2012™.

During Euro 2012 the Electronic Communication Office will perform a very important function by monitoring the use of bands in accordance with the assigned licences, primarily at the Stadiums in order to ensure complete broadcast safety and the accomplishment of organisational tasks with wireless devices.

The process performed for the needs of Euro 2012 will serve as important experience in developing a target system which will subsequently be made available by UKE to all users of frequencies, including the organisers of future events.
