The most difficult stage of the modernization of the Municipal Stadium in Poznań has started. On Monday works began that are related to the preparation of a structure required for the roof construction.
This is why the playing field will not be used over the coming four months. After signing the protocol the first stage of the works began - a special device has been collecting grass from the field and subsequent strips of grass are being rolled up. Concrete slabs will be placed on the field to allow efficient transports of the elements of trusses and their connection. The main bearing structure of four trusses weighing nearly 4,000 tones will rest on supporting shanks which are now concreted in the corners of the stands. The trusses will be lifted using specialist equipment and temporary towers will be erected to facilitate the installation. It will be a complicated construction project.

Later steel arches will be placed on the trusses and external reinforced concrete pillars (weighing in total more than 3,000 tones) that will support the membranous roofing. In this way a roof will be created over the stands that will significantly elevate the standard of the facility and allow greater opportunities for the organization of mass events.

The new facility will be opened in 2010.
