Holland's goalkeeper and captain Edwin van der Sar recorded his 16th appearance in the final phase of the European championships with the Holland-Russia match of Euro 2008. In doing so, he equalled the record of France's Lilian Thuram. The 37-year-old Van der Sar, who is also the record holder for international appearances for Holland (128), which include four matches at Euro 1996 in England, four in Belgium and Holland in 2000, and five matches in Portugal four years ago.
